• Prior to 11.96 vBNS multicast was a mesh of DVMRP tunnels between SCC Dec Alphas at running mrouted
• In 11.96 a PIM Dense-Mode cloud among all vBNS Cisco routers using DVMRP unicast routing was instituted
• The PIM-DM backbone provides native IP multicast between HPC sites, with connections to peer networks
• Recently, PIM-SM among vBNS Cisco routers
